What is HERMES?

The HERMES project management method was developed in Switzerland and is widely used there for the management of projects.
It was originally developed for IT projects in the public sector, but can now be adapted for many other areas.
HERMES offers a flexible structure that is suitable for different types of projects and organizations.
Typical problems for which HERMES can be used include

  1. IT and software development projects: HERMES is particularly suitable for projects in the area of IT infrastructure, the development of software systems or the digitalization of processes.
It supports the planning and implementation of IT solutions, from the definition of requirements to implementation and commissioning.
  2. Administrative projects and public administration: Originally developed for the public sector, HERMES is well suited to administrative projects, especially when introducing new IT systems, digitizing processes or implementing e-government solutions.
  3. Organizational projects: HERMES can be used for projects that aim to optimize or redesign organizational structures and processes.
This includes, for example, the introduction of new business models or the reorganization of departments.
  4. Infrastructure projects: For projects involving the planning and implementation of infrastructure measures, e.g. in the construction or transport sector, HERMES can also be used to ensure a structured and standardized approach.
  5. Research and development projects: For projects aimed at developing new products, technologies or scientific findings, HERMES can help to divide the development process into manageable and plannable phases and clearly define milestones.
  6. Procurement projects: HERMES is also suitable for projects that deal with the procurement of goods and services, for example in the tendering and selection of IT service providers or the implementation of new technical systems.

The quality management system (QMS) and the products and services of compliag AG have also been developed in accordance with the HERMES project management method.

Why HERMES?

  • Modularity and flexibility: HERMES can be adapted for different project sizes and types, as it consists of modules that are applied depending on the project type.
  • Standardized phases: HERMES divides projects into clear phases (initialization, concept, implementation, introduction), which enables transparency and control over progress.
  • Roles and responsibilities: The method defines clear roles and responsibilities, which improves communication and collaboration within the project.

HERMES is particularly suitable for projects that require a standardized, flexible and structured method to ensure project progress and quality – no longer just in the public sector but increasingly also for manufacturers of products and services – like us at compliag AG – our products and services, including medical products, are developed according to HERMES.
